General Medical Services (Payments) Board: Report for the year ended 31st December 1995
Department of Health (DoH); General Medical Services (Payments) Board
Through its Annual Report the Board sets out to present, at a high level, relevant financial and statistical information on the cost and uptake of services which are provided under agreements with Health Boards and paid for through the General Medical Services (Payments) Board. The Report of the Board for 1995 repeats, as in previous years, the many and varied schemes and payments systems which generated the workload of the Board in the year uncler review while this workload was significantly greater than in any previous year and the throughput of an increased level of claims coupled with the increased demands for information stretched that resources of the Board, the Board's management and staff responded to these new challenges with determination and commitment to provide the best possible service to the Board's clients withill the limits of the available resources. The Board's strategy for dealing with this resource issue and in particular, the system capacity issue, is based on a two tier approach i.e. an enhancement of the capacity of the Board's system and the establishment of a two war system for the electronic communication of data between the Board and its clients. It is expected that the capacity of the Board 's computer system will be addressed by mid 1996 - plans for the electronic communication of data should be in place by the end of 1996.
