Child Sexual Exploitation in Northern Ireland Report of the Independent Inquiry (PDF 2.73MB)
(2014)
Department of Health (Northern Ireland)
Abstract:
Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE), led by Kathleen Marshall In September 2013, a Ministerial Summit was held on the theme of child sexual exploitation (CSE) in Northern Ireland. The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) referred to Operation Owl, an investigation of allegations of CSE in Northern Ireland, which had resulted in a number of adults being interviewed and some being arrested. Two weeks later, the then Minister for Health, Social Services and Public Safety, Edwin Poots, announced three actions to address this issue: an ongoing PSNI investigation focusing on 22 children and young people; a thematic review of these cases by the Safeguarding Board for Northern Ireland (SBNI); and an independent, expert-led inquiry into CSE in Northern Ireland, to be commissioned by the Minister for Health, Social Services and Public Safety and the Minister of Justice. The Minister for Education agreed that the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) would enjoin ...

Abstract:
This information release, produced by the Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety’s Information and Analysis Directorate, provides information on smoking cessation services. Data are included on the monitoring of smoking cessation services in Northern Ireland during the period 1st April 2014 to 31st March 2015. This report also provides an analysis of data collected in 2014/15 in respect of clients who set a quit date during 2013/14 (52 week follow-up). Information contained within this report was downloaded from a web based recording system. Figures here are correct as of 1st September 2015. The Ten Year Tobacco Control Strategy for Northern Ireland aims to see fewer people starting to smoke, more smokers quitting and protecting people from tobacco smoke. Political vetting of community work in Northern Ireland
(1990)
Political Vetting of Community Work Working Group
Abstract:
In April 1990 the Community Workers' Co-op and the Northern Ireland Council for Voluntary Action organised a very well attended, broad based conference at Queen's University to discuss issues arising from the Government's policy of political vetting and it's effect on community work. It was quite clear from the conference that the effects of political vetting were much wider than those dozen or so groups directly penalised. This is primarily a report of the conference but also includes an update of the latest victim of this policy the Irish language group Glór na nGael.

Abstract:

Research carried out on behalf of the Healthy Ageing Research Programme (HARP). Published by The Institute of Public Health in Ireland.

This project involves a cross-sectional study of community- dwelling older people aged 65 + years in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. Significant differences exist in policy, structures, coverage and funding between the two healthcare systems. These differences – a ‘one island – two systems’ situation – provide a unique opportunity to learn by comparing the health, social status and service experiences of two groups of older people on one island with two differing health and social services. Little comparative research has been conducted on the island to date. The aim of this report is to compare health and social status and related service provision in the Republic and Northern Ireland from the perspective of community-dwelling older people needing and/or using these services. Part of this comparison inc...

A Strategy for Maternity Care in Northern Ireland 2012-2018
(2012)
Department of Health (Northern Ireland)
Abstract:
DHSSPS has carried out a review of policy on maternity service provision in Northern Ireland. The review focused on the best available evidence for the care and treatment of mothers-to-be; quality, safety and service sustainability; wider workforce issues; and professional roles and responsibilities. As a result, a draft strategy was developed, which was the subject of a public consultation from 28 September 2011 to 23 January 2012. Following an analysis of the responses to the consultation, the final strategy, A Strategy for Maternity Care in Northern Ireland 2012-2018, was published on 2 July 2012. The Strategy is outcomes focused. The six outcomes are:- give every baby and family the best start in life; effective communication and high-quality maternity care; healthier women at the start of pregnancy (preconception care); effective, locally accessible, antenatal care and a positive experience for prospective parents; safe labour and birth (intrapartum) care with improved experie...
